FAQs

Does Sky Meadows permit properties to be used for overnight transient accommodations such as VRBO, Airbnb etc.?

The CC&Rs mention “lessees” and how the membership rights transfer from the member to the lessee; formal written notification to the Board is required with contact information for all lessees under this policy. The internet, nor VRBO and other such sites, were not even in existence when SMR was created in 1970. The membership has been very critical of transient accommodations and using recreational property for commercial enterprises (rental or other business) as this seems to be contrary to the CC&Rs.It also brings “guests” into the community whom neither are aware of the rules or policies of SMR; this has an impact on our water system, caretaker services, road maintenance and use of amenities. There are a few overnight rentals currently operating in SMR, but the Board has been discussing this topic and the results of the member survey. The survey results were not supportive of transient accommodations by a majority of members who responded. This topic is still under review by the Board to determine if any additional restrictions/clarifications will be put in place and would be supported by the membership.
